Lonely~~I'm so lonely~~~~

Sam Leong

“kinda tired of facing shit all the time.
feel like i'm not fitting in at school. :(”

PRETTIEST FRIEND by Jason Mraz

This is what I look like today
And I'm trying not to pull out my hair
I'm trying not to grow it but I'm far too shy to show it back there
That's probably why I like wearing hats
There's no denying I'm deferring the facts
Avoiding confrontation
Lacks tact in a situation
Behind every line is a lesson yet to learn

But if you ask me
The feeling that I'm feeling is overwhelming
And oh, it goes to show
I've so much to know

I wrote this for my prettiest friend
Who while trying not to prove that I care
I was trying not to make all my moves in one motion and scare her away
Well she can't see she's making me crazy now
I don't believe she knows she's amazing how
She has me holding my breathe
So I'd never guess that I'm a none such unsuitable, suited for her

But if you ask me
The feeling that I'm feeling is complimentery
And oh, it goes to show
The moral of the story is boy loves girl
And so on but the way that it unfolds is yet to be told

I know that I should be brave
Even pretty can be seen by the blind
I know that I cannot wait
Until the day we finally learn how to find each other
Redefining open minds

And if you ask me
The feeling that I'm feeling is overjoyed
And it's golden, it goes to show then
The ending of this song should be left alone
And so on 'cause the way it unfolds is yet to be told

Daiko Drum & Red Cross

Daiko training..

Standard First Aid Course

Venue: Red Cross HQ
Time: 9am-6pm for all three days
Fee: TBC (but won't be more than $10 and U.P is $107)
CCA points: 4 points to Enrichment category

CCA points

SP ISC Chinese Dumpling Festival 2010

Date: Friday, 21 May 2010
Time: 18:30 - 21:30

Distinction

REFLECTION ON "ASIAN TIGER, LION CITY" by Nicole Loh

The documentary 'Lion City, Asian Tiger' would not have been my first pick at a DVD store but upon watching it in our ONOW lesson, I found it rather interesting. Firstly, I expected it to be filmed mostly in the government's voice but was surprised at the amount of screen time given to J.B. Jeyaretnam. This intrigued me during the film but on hindsight, the long-time opposition leader was portrayed in a rather negative light, with much emphasis placed on his state of bankruptcy, disbarment as a lawyer and his stint in prison. This led me to wonder if parties opposing the status quo in any political scene would ever receive a fair platform in the media. In Singapore, the Straits Times, among other forms of media, tend to be biased in favour of the People's Action Party. Publication of events implicating the government and any other party generally leans towards the defense of the PAP. If, the government indeed believes that what it does is in the best interest of the people, then surely no harm would come in allowing other parties to fairly express their views through the media. The community should be given full knowledge of happenings from different points of view and be allowed to decide for themselves what they are for or against. The story of Jeyaretnam's conviction was also particularly intriguing. The way the government reacted when they saw a threat in Jeyaretnam and rather unpleasant. Put away for two years before the British Council overturned his conviction, Jeyaretnam was finally made bankrupt by a series of lawsuits filed by the government. I have little respect for how the PAP dealt with an individual who sang a different tune from them but made it to Parliamentary benches.

The portrayal of how and why Singapore broke away from Malaysia to become a country on it's own is also rather different from what is told in the Malaysian context. In the documentary, it is said that racial discordance was the main cause of the separation of the two countries. In Malaysian textbooks however, the story goes that Singapore could not have achieved independence from the British empire without merging with Malaysia. It is implied that Lee Kuan Yew used the merge only as a tool for freedom and jumped at the first opportunity of parting ways with Malaya. There seems to be an inconsistency regarding the depiction split in the documentary. The narrative tells us that independence "came as a shock" to Lee Kuan Yew who wept during the split and said "it was a moment of anguish". This implies that the split was not something he had embraced. In the following seconds however, we are shown a clip of an elder Mr Lee suggesting that he had been uncomfortable that the military was under Tunku Abdul Rahman's command and knew that circumstances would not change until Singapore was an independent country. This leads me to believe that Mr Lee had wanted a wider jurisdiction in regards to the command of the country. But surely, Lee Kuan Yew must have known that being under the rule of Abdul Rahman was something that joining the Malaysian Federation had entailed. The retelling of the split between Malaya and Singapore left me somewhat confused and skeptical. The true sequence of events however, is subject to personal interpretation and perception. People of different nationalities, for instance, are brought up being told different versions of the same events. The subject of manipulation of media also comes into play. Very seldom are our opinions freely-formed. Instead our believes are influenced by the voices we are exposed to, especially during childhood.

On another note, the farsightedness and prioritization of Singapore's leaders was undeniably admirable. This proves true especially in the millitary and economic fields. However the strength of Singapore's army has yet to be tested and the effectiveness of the National Service is still, therefore, subject to speculation. The Lion City's ventures in consumer electronics as well as Singapore Airlines have been vital in the progress of the country. It is brave, smart choices such these, made by the leaders of the country that have brought Singapore the financial success it has today. Having said that, I believe that Singapore will only continue to enjoy it's current successes if it's leaders of the coming generation are as competent like the ones before them. The citizens of the country are highly-dependent on their government and should there be a head of the city who is less of a visionary than his predecessors, I believe that Singapore might fall into an economic decline.

One thing that the documentary seems to emphasise is that very seldom are events painted in black and white but more often, in a shade of grey. Perhaps people should not be viewed as right or wrong for doing something they believe to be in the interest of the others, as most do. The least we can do, as members of a community, is not to judge or jump to conclusions before we have full knowledge and understanding. Also, we should not be limited by conventionalism. We must not fear nor be threatened by those who come forward with ideals that are unheard of. Progression comes only with the acceptance of change. Therefore, new things are not to be viewed with apprehension and dismay but instead, to be embraced, learned about and utilised for the betterment of ourselves as well as the country. This film, if nothing else, reminded me to view things from different understandings and question what we are told to believe instead of merely accepting something because it is the norm.

CA1 Project

DMC Connect 2010

Bus Directory

Christian

Graphic Design Basics

Assignment 1: pic1&2-original pic3-after editing(my final product)
Assignment 2: pic4-original pic5-after editing(my final product)..haha!I painted the doors and traced the damage part of the wall and the "16" using Adobe Photoshop

Ironman 2

S.H.E 我愛雨夜花
